I don't wanna make too much of this because he only gets garbage time, but... I'm liking what I see from Mr Baynes. The guy is built like a brick wall and seems to have an enforcer mentality in the paint. His upper body is massive. Can't imagine anyone wanting to go up against him. I've been a Patty fan since he got here, and I think we're only getting to see a very small part of what he can do. Lightning quick. |

My thought is that the Spurs feel they may have a mini-Manu in DeColo and will give him time to develop. I haven't been much impressed by what I've seen from him yet, but even Manu took some time to become Manu. I agree that Patty could prosper from getting some Neal minutes. No knock on Neal: he's bigger than Patty and he's unstoppable when his stroke is working. But I'm inclined to think that (given floor time) Patty could bring more of TP's game to the table as the primary PG back-up. He's already a fearless defender. Since Blair is a gone goose, I figure Pop should cut his losses by exiling him to the far end of the bench and giving Baynes enough game minutes (even in garbage time) to see if he can be serviceable for the playoffs. Too bad Spurs couldn't find a taker for a Neal-Blair package. |
