NY Times on former NBA #2 pick and Austin Toro, Jay Williams
Excellet read about how a motorcycle ended a very promising NBA career and what happened next...
NYT: A Leg Rebuilt, a Life Renewed
He even joined the Austin Toros in the Development League, where his coach, Dennis Johnson, promised to get Williams back into the N.B.A. Then Williams tore his hamstring and ended up back in the hospital. While he was recovering, Johnson died of a heart attack.
"Dude, I'm done," Williams said of his mind-set then. "I'm chasing a ghost. It's over."
More depression. More drinking. More resentment. More self-loathing. All part of the search for what came next...
I read a similar article in ProBasketTalk (Jay Williams says he attempted suicide after motorcycle crash that took his career | ProBasketballTalk) Williams is lucky to be alive. He was an amazing talent, but he turned his life around and is a very insightful analyst. A very good read.
Thanks for posting this interesting article.
Nice Read on both of those!
It could happen!
If it was Never meant to be for ya, I guess it was never meant to be!
It's really sad to think what may have also happened if he hadn't quit on his comeback after Dennis Johnson died. He could be playing in a Spurs uniform now.
The motorcycle crash ended it all. His game was gone period. Bobby Hurley too.(not Hurley's fault though)
