Parker named Western Conference Player of the "Month" Spurs point guard Tony Parker has been named Western Conference Player of the Month for January, the NBA announced late Friday. LeBron James won the Eastern Conference award. He becomes the fifth player in franchise history to win the Association’s monthly honor, and the first since Tim Duncan won it in April 2002. Duncan has won the award three times, David Robinson won it four times and Alvin Robertson and George Gervin both won it once. There was no conference distinction until the 2001-02 season. Parker, who was recently selected to his fifth All-Star Game, averaged 21.9 points (ninth in the NBA), 7.9 assists (seventh), 2.5 rebounds and 1.13 steals in 33.3 minutes in 15 games. The 11-year shot also shot .563 from the floor. He carries a career-best streak of 40 straight games with double-figure points into Saturday’s home game against Washington. Spurs Nation |
