NBA scouts will be forced to scout the Salt Lake (Utah) Community College men’s basketball team, which has gotten off to a sparking 17-2 start. Among the players on the Bruins, winners of 13 in a row, are sophomore guard Tyrell Corbin, freshman guard Gary Payton II and sophomore forward JuWan Buchanan. Corbin’s father is Jazz coach and former Cavs swingman Tyrone Corbin. Payton is the son of ex-NBA great Gary Payton. Buchanan is the nephew of former NBA All-Star and Cavs standout Shawn Kemp. The trio, coached by Todd Phillips, hopes to lead SLCC back to the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament for the first time since the Bruins won the national title in 2009.
