At the start of last season Dirk Nowitzki
was battling a sore knee but played through, eventually took a little time off for treatment, and after a couple months he worked out the inflammation and things returned to normal.
Now his knee issue is back. And while Nowitzki wouldn’t use the word “surgery” in talking about it with the Dallas Morning News
, he hinted at it.
“We’ll see how it responds,” he said. “But the longer we wait, obviously the worse it is. If we have to do something, it’d be better to do it quick.
“But we’re still hopeful that this is a temporary thing. If we relax and rest it for a week and see how it goes, then we’ll have a better idea.”
This would not be major surgery (as if any surgery is minor, but you get the idea), simply an arthroscopic procedure to clean out his knee and remove the source of the inflammation. He’d be out for a few weeks most likely. But for a Mavericks team that has Nowitzki as the hub of its offense and one without a lot of margin for error to make the playoffs, a few weeks without Nowitzki could have bigger implications.
