This offseason was simply resigning last seasons team which is fine considering they were #1 in the west however the Spurs are lacking in size and this far in the offseason free agency theres no one that's going to "save" this team from that however I still do think there are a good handfull of players that could possibly be an upgrade from Bonner or Blair for minimum $ Yancy Gates (Undrafted big man from Cincinnati) Darko Milicic (A more physical Rasho) Andray Blatche (Bit of a head case, only 26 but can play) Al Thornton (Not really a "big man" but how is this guy not in the NBA?) David Anderson (We paired up 2 Frechman, now 2 Austrailians?) Joel Przybilla (Defensive specialist) What do you guys think? (BTW this is my 1st post on here, super excited to be apart of Spursreport.com I've been visiting this website for over 5 years, finally decided to register and become a member I feel like I know you guys personally) |

Yancy Gates: never seen the guy play. if he's not better than Splitter, all we'd be doing is upgrading the guys who won't get any minutes anyway, so it won't make a difference. Al Thornton: i forgot about him to be honest. he wouldn't be had, especially if we were to go "small-ish" and quick. a long shot since he hasn't been talked about i think. David Anderson: what can he do exactly? he'd be up there with having to be better than Splitter. Joel Pryzbilla: too slow to be effective. he's not an offensive player, so he'd have to be paired with Duncan. the problem is Duncan is getting terribly slow on defense and rotations, so transition we'd be killed. if he can't play offense well, he can't be paired with Splitter either because Tiago can't give him room to work. the only way he'd be useful is if somehow he'd be paired with Diaw or small ball every time.

If we could get Milicic for the minimum I´d go for it

Until Blair is gone and the Spurs have a first round pick, not a snowball's chance in Oklahoma for any of them. The same goes for projects in training camp or rejects from other team's training camps. If Blair is out by trade deadline, and the basketball gods decide to offer a miracle gift for the Spurs at the deadline, then maybe, a very slim maybe.

David Anderson has an average mid to basket game can shoot outside genuine size is not pushed around easily and is currently coached by Brett Brown so he would know if he could fit in. But otherwise not very athletic or a blocker, average rebounder. Worth a look for a fourth option, sort of a mix of Bonner and Blair really but one advantage would be size. Otherwise my thoughts on Blatche is obvious others could be worth looking at for minimum.

Milicic would be my #1 choice from this list, take off Przybilla because he just signed with Milwaukee and add Hassan Whiteside to that list, again the point here is these guys will be signed to a minimum contract so theres no very much at stake and small contracts are always nice for potential trade bait. on a side note I don't think the Spurs will get a 1st round draft pick for Blair even though he's well worth it, if they can't move him soon, by deadline they should trade him for anything, with Diaw now taking over he will rarely be needed so might as well get something in return. |

If the Spurs weren't supposedly looking for a big man before, they better be now. Howard to the Lakers will kill them. Imagine Metta WP, Gasol, and Howard on the front line? Oh yeah and that have Nash and Kobe in the back court. Time for te Spurs to help Timmy win another title by shuffling the deck. |
