New Orleans Hornets waive veteran forward Rashard Lewis - NBA News | FOX Sports on MSN The New Orleans Hornets have waived Rashard Lewis, a move they've been expected to make since acquiring the 14-year veteran forward in a trade with Washington. The Wizards had sent Lewis and the 46th overall pick in this year's NBA draft to New Orleans on June 20 in exchange for forward Trevor Ariza and center Emeka Okafor. Lewis was entering the final year of a $118 million, six-year contract, which included a $13.7 million buyout provision for the last year of the deal. The 6-foot-10 Lewis has averaged 16.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists during his career. Hampered by knee injuries last season, he played in only 28 games for the Wizards, averaging 7.8 points and 3.9 rebounds.      |

Forward Rashard Lewis, a 6-foot-10 3-point specialist who was limited to 28 games this past season by knee problems and waived over the weekend by the New Orleans Hornets, has attracted multiple overtures from the Heat amid the start of the NBA's free-agency period. "I've talked to the Heat several times, and we'll continue to talk to them," agent Tony Dutt told the Sun Sentinel Monday. "We're just looking at all of the options at this point and we're going to sit down later in the week and figure out the top three or four spots that make sense and then he may visit those particular spots." all he can do now is shoot 3's. it'd be basketball suicide to put the guy in the SF position now. he's basically Bonner, can't rebound nor defend, just chuck up shots.

He could be properly motivated however by being on a contender. I wouldn't mind signing him and having lewis and jackson play the SF position. Thus moving leonard to the SG spot and being a lock down defender with 3 point capabilities. Then having manu and green as back ups. |
