why have home court advantage???

The last 2 years the Spurs have had home court throughout the playoffs and both times have lost at home during a series and end up losing. Same with 2001 against the Lakers. Also, i remember them losing the home court in 06 to the Mavs but wound up getting it back but losing that game 7. The Spurs just don't seem to ever take advantage of having the Number 1 seed!!

Well, it seems now a days as if it is a curse to have HCA & 1st place in the West? SMH

Still it helped my Spurs tremendously in shortening the 1st two rounds to sweeps....

Problem lied in the last WCF round... Sadly HCA was worthless.

Well, that's exactly it. The SPURS don't take advantage of it. I think HCA is pretty important, particularly in the later series, and particularly for the role players.

Of the past 20 conference champions (conference champions from both East and West for the past 10 years), only 5 have made the Finals. 2003 Spurs, 2008 Celtics, and the 2008-2010 Lakers. Home court advantage is hardly a guaranteed trip to the finals, and the Spurs aren't unique in not taking advantage of it.

The whole year Spurs were running in a marathon just so they can be ahead in their SW Div which is the toughest in the NBA.

Don't forget how Dallas won the title last year and they were always a threat to us the last few years in the SW Div.

I don't think Spurs meant to have HCA, but it just happened while they were trying to make a run for preparing for the PO.

I think the main point for Spurs was HEALTH the last few years.

As they approached the PO last year they got injuries because of the long run all year long to get a good seed esp in a tight competitive SW Div. So they easily lost the battle to Memphis first round.

So this year we had a healthy Spurs team, and we still lost to a more hustling young hungrier team in wcf.

Now we have to figure it out... Do we not care about seeding? Or do we continue as they helped us win the 1st two rounds?

HCA is supposed to help a team in 1st two rounds, or in the finals but certainly not for the WCF.

Anytime you doubt home court advantage, think back to 2005 Finals.

HCA doesn't guarantee anything, but it's a good ace to have in your back pocket when you're in a tough series.
