Scott Brooks on the Hack-A-Splitter strategy: "It changed the tempo a bit. I mean, they were fast tonight. The ball was just all over the floor with quick passes, passes that were right in their shooting pockets, and it kind of threw their rhythm out a little. He stepped up and made [five] of them. He did better than his playoff percentage. But if on occasion we have an opportunity to do it again, we will."

Dubious tactic on several levels. Tiago hit 50% of his FTs. Since the Spurs average slightly more than 1 point per possession, there was no great point-saving advantage for OKC. During the stretch that OKC pulled the "hack-a-Splitter" strategy, they didn't significantly cut into the Spur lead. Yes, the tactic disrupts the Spur rhythm, but it doesn't help OKC's rhythm. Specifically, they can't break quickly into transition after a free throw. It's not as if the Spurs are likely to get psychologically rattled by the strategy... for those who are worried about Hit-A-Split, you're really not thinking about how it worked against the Thunder last night and getting way too worried over nothing. - it slowed down the tempo for the Thunder. given they are already a jump shooting team, it took away their transition points. they have no inside presence, so unlike when the Spurs try it, they don't have an easy score. we outscored them with Hit-A-Split. - look who the fouls were on: their MAIN rotation guys. what does that mean? if Perkins is playing like crap like he usually does, Collison will have too many fouls on him in the end of the game to do anything. if they go small, then they got their smalls racking up fouls while then trying to guard Parker/Manu - Tiago isn't an idiot. for those who are worried, did you watch Tiago SPRINT towards Durant, who then used up a stupid foul for Hit a Split?! it's a good strategy when you're trying to make a comeback. it's a good strategy if you have depth. heck, it's even a good strategy if you have a Matt Bonner giving those fouls because he stretches the floor on the end side, thus giving you a better chance to hit 3's and come back. it's not a smart tactic when you cut your playoff rotation to 7-8 in a slow pace with no inside presence because now all you're depending your chances on are jumpers against an already set up defense waiting for you.

Jose, I agree with you, since they do not have an Anderson or some one on the end of the bench Okc can afford to put in to foul Splitter, in the end it hurt OKC more than the Spurs.I was amazed at who was fouling. Also shooting that many fouls becomes practice, at one point he hit 3 in a row!

Jose good point about OKC not getting easy transition points with that strategy and making an already jump shooting team that much predictable on the offensive end. If the game is closer, pop will take him out no doubt but if there's a cushion, I think he'll leave Split a pair in the game. Nobody is talking about how this series is really preparing our squad for our most likely opponent, Heat. That offense is dominant on the run and struggles in a half court set and if turnovers are eliminated, our ball movement will neutralize them proving our superiority. Hope to see the heat come up short again and lbj losing his third finals and Timmy winning every opportunity at a championship in the finals. That is true greatness. GSG!!!!
