David Stern Says Rajon Rondo 'Obviously' Bumped Official In Celtics Vs. Hawks Game 1

The NBA has yet to officially discipline Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo for bumping official Mark Davis in the Celtics' 83-74 loss to the Atlanta Hawks in Game 1 of their 2012 NBA Playoffs series, but David Stern's recent quotes on the matter certainly make it seem like a suspension is coming. In an interview with ESPN Boston, Stern poked a gigantic hole in Rondo's story that he was tripped and his momentum caused him to fall on Davis.

Coach Rivers made it seam like the ref stopped suddenly that's why they bumped. Judge for yourself.

Suspended for 1 game. Looks like he'll be out for Game 2

If you recall, Duncan once got suspended for almost an identical type of Referee Bump.

Yes when the ref got in his way so he was suspended for the Clippers game, which the Spurs won.

I am no fan of Rondo and obviously he was trying to get up on the official, but it looks to me like he stepped on the official's heal, making the official stop and making Rondo stumble forward a hair.

Oh please. That is such BS. Yes, he stepped on his heal, but then there was a pause, no loss of balance then the chest puff to make contact. If you don't see that you are wearing shamrock colored glasses!

Hah, last thing I am wearing is shamrock colored glasses. Not a fan of Rondo's attitude, the Celtics, or anything from New England other than clam chowder.

What it looks like to me is that he meant to get within a hair's width of him to crowd him and show him up, maybe brush him, but not bump him. Then he stepped on the ref's foot so the combo was the ref stopped a bit short and Rondo went forward a little faster. I am not at all trying to exonerate him. Just doesn't look like any intentional bump I've ever seen.

Although the biggest argument I see against that theory is that he didn't say anything about it in the immediate post-game interview.

It is a sad day when I disagree with Grizz and agree with Stern..... what ever balance he had if you look at the footage from behind Rondos back looks like it caved in trying to extend it. It was deliberate and he deserved the game.
