**UPDATE** Tiago Hurt, in a cast

Word is it's a sprained left wrist. Hopefully not too serious. It helps that the Spurs have the next two day off.

OK, it's been a couple hours....any word leaking on how bad the sprain is? So nice to have TWO full days between these first few games...

Apparently he has a date with an MRI according to Jeff McDonald of SA express news. Considering he still played after initially bracing his fall and spraining his wrist, hopefully he'll miss a game or two tops. Thankfully in the first round, we have a good amount of days off between games. That will change in the next round unfortunately

Looking ahead long term, Tiago must learn how to control these nagging injuries. He'll be very important if the Spurs are going to continue to succeed as we transition out of the post-Big 3 era.

I love that he plays full-out. But he needs some training help.

Hope hw can get well soon....

We can do without him in San Antonio but we def need him on the road.

Spurs must know this Jazz team will foul A LOT and they will foul you HARD!

I came into the game late and was wondering why the one big who disappears and disappoints Spurs fans consistently during the playoffs was getting so much time. Hope Tiago heals quickly.

Optimistically thinking, it could be Pop who is overcautious, and Tiago would play through these minor injuries.

Hope it isn't too bad

We need everyone in there. Utah may not be great but this isn't the Nuggets we are playing. Man they stink!

it may just be something minor. i'm sure they took an X-Ray and nothing was broken, being the wrist they were overcautious because it can't see the ligaments in case of a tear. i'm sure it's not a tear though if the guy can move it.

if it was tear he would have been in a lot more pain, im sure they were just being cautious. We need his length more than anything else. one reason why the acquisition of diaw was huge (thanks mj). Also jackson and leonard are pretty good rebounders (we will however need splitter in the next round). Spurs in 5! ( i previously gave the jazz to much credit. I think they win one at home...if that)
p.s. bonner was pretty darn good out there.

He shoots with his RIGHT HAND. Ok being cautious is great but come on. Put some tape on it and get the F back in the game. Ibuprofen?

Bonner did play well today. Splitter will be needed that's for sure and expect him to miss a game or two at most.

Splitter set for MRI: Splitter set for M Spurs center Tiago Splitter was forced out of Sunday’s playoff-opening game against the Jazz, after suffering a sprained left wrist. He did not play in the second half of the game, finishing with four points and one rebound in seven minutes, as the Spurs defeated the Jazz, 106-91. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Splitter is set to have an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of the injury.

As much as I want Tiago in there, I say we sit the guy until he's close to 100%. If we'll have to face the Lakers or Grizz, his size will be vital.

I'm on pins & needles waiting for the MRI report.

You and me both. I'm sure most of us feel the same way regarding Tiago.

I'm going down to the MRI center right now to get first-hand account. Security can't stop me!

i agree, he needs to sit the rest of this series unless he is 100%, the jazz front court is good, but they arent very tall, so he wont be needed, we should win easily! i dont think we can win without him if we have to play the grizzlies or lakers

Though the San Antonio Spurs took Game 1 against the Utah Jazz yesterday, Tiago Splitter sprained his left wrist and is now doubtful for Game 2 according to The Salt Lake Tribune.

San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said reserve center Tiago Splitter (sprained left wrist) is wearing a cast and likely doubtful for Game 2 Wednesday against the Jazz.
The Spurs did a decent job versus the big of Utah but having Splitter out for any extended period of time won't help San Antonio.

The good thing is the lay off between games will help Splitter recover, however, should the Spurs advance out of the first-round, they will need his services against either the bigs of Grizzlies (Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol) or the Clippers (Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan).

Against the Jazz, Splitter scored four points, grabbed one rebound, and had one blocked shot in seven minutes before getting hurt.

Also, Manu Ginobili spoke on the keys to winning Game 2.

Just give him some strong Vicodin. I'm sure he'll be fine after that.
If Manu can play with a broken arm, Tiago can play with a sprained left wrist.

Tiago questionable for Wednesday’s game
Posted on April 30, 2012 at 1:44 pm by Tim Griffin

Tiago Splitter’s injured left wrist has been immobilized in a cast, leading Spurs coach Gregg Popovich to consider him doubtful for Game 2 of the first round of the playoffs Wednesday night against Utah.

“I think it’s something we won’t be able to tell until Wednesday,” Popovich said. “I would say he was probably be doubtful.”

Splitter was injured when he braced a fall with his left hand during the first quarter of the Spurs’ 106-91 victory over the Jazz in Game 1 Sunday afternoon. He played through the rest of the first half, but did not see game action after intermission as he finished with four points in 7 minutes, 8 seconds of game action.

During the team’s practice Monday morning at the Spurs training facility, Splitter was riding an exercise bicycle to maintain his conditioning, but he wasn’t on the floor shooting with the rest of his teammates.

If Splitter can’t go, he will be replaced in the Spurs rotation by DeJuan Blair, who produced five points, two rebounds and two steals in 9:46 in Sunday’s game — all in the second half after Splitter’s injury.

“DeJuan Blair is ready to go,” Popovich said Monday. ”He did a good job. After sitting for a long time, he came in and got right to it.”

Pop is babying every injury. So if Tiago is in a cast today, I figure we won;t see him again until at least the weekend.

Like I said earlier we need Tiago in Utah more than here. Let him rest for game 2 then he comes out on fire for games 3 and 4 in Utah.

Let him sit for a while, play him this weekend in Utah. The great thing about this years team is the depth, and we'll need him next round, last thing we'll want to see is him aggravating it.

This just in, Pop reportedly demanded that Tiago Splitter be placed in full-body traction inside a sealed clean room.

Said Pop: "You can't be too careful with those minor bumps. Could develop into terminal inoperable tumors."
