Are Blair's minutes in jeopardy with the arrival of Diaw?

On Thursday night when the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, there was an interesting sequence to begin the second half.

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich elected to start forward Boris Diaw instead of center DeJuan Blair in the third quarter. Blair wouldn't see action for the rest of the night as Tim Duncan, Diaw, Matt Bonner, and Tiago Splitter were the closing members of the frontline for the last 24-minutes of the game.

I doubt it. Pop is stubborn. We'll see if Diaw starts in place of Blair in the two games against the Lakers.

Pop's going to start Blair, and play him according to the matchups like we saw against the Gizzlies. He'll probably play 12 minutes against a team like the Lakers, but still start. Against a team like the Suns he's going to play quite a bit.

I Don't understand risking the possibility of starting the first five minutes of a game with the Lakers 10 or more points in the hole.

I Just don't get it

You have gota love the Popovich.

Seems Pop now has horses for courses and can switch to meet match up requirements. Rather taking Blair's minutes, Diaw may take some of the strain off Blair in some of the over matched situations.

who cares? we have 4 1/2 bigs (blairs the half) what a great problem to have. Its an improvement over last years situation, time will tell if it will be enough. It's all going to depend on how well duncan plays.

Blair is a far more active interior player than Diaw, however Diaw is more intelligent with the ball in terms of passing, shooting, and not committing turnovers. I think the matchups will dictate to Pop who will get the job done better in any given situation.

Exactly. I for one would not object too see Diaw PT increase as the PO approaches just as long as Splitters PT remain intact
