Using the amnesty on RJ now (as opposed to next year) has to make roster sense, because it doesn't make financial sense since we have to replace him with another player PLUS pay his contract. So you go from paying $72 mil to $63 mil cap-wise, but you're still actually paying the $72 mil plus the MLE, which is basically the same as paying the $72mil plus luxury tax. So when it came out they were going to use the amnesty on RJ, I assumed that meant they WOULD use it when a legit 3 agreed to come here under MLE terms. |

Howard to Denver? Everything says he's still undecided and besides his 'publicist' say's the Spurs are very much in the conversation, come on now she wouldn't just say what the SA beat writers want to hear would she????

If all the Spurs Free agent option for the small forward have signed elsewhere I really think that they may just stick with RJ. If McDyess officially retires and his contract doesn't count against the cap the Spurs will be under the Luxury tax threshold of $70.3 million. Unless they still have plans for the MLE they should be good financially. The rest of the roster may be filled with vet minimums and we are set to go. Dallas has lost a lot, Lakers are in transition, it's the young run and gunners that the Spurs need to figure out. Battier is out in Memphis so that hurt them a little. |

Chris Broussard is reporting on ESPN that if the Gasol trade goes through the Rockets may use the amnesty on Thabeet. He is making about $5.1 million. If the Spurs amnesty RJ they could make a bid on Thabeets contract in the first 48 hours. $3 million maybe? or Thabeet becomes a free agent after that. He would be a project, not sure if it would be worth it. What do you guys think of him?

And, from everything I've heard, he's not worth a project. If the Rockets manage to sign anyone taller than Jose to play center, then Thabeet is gone. |
