Arizona Intent on Deporting Every Last Latino from GOP

Arizona Intent on Deporting Every Last Latino from GOP
POSTED BY: Dennis DiClaudio

You know, there's been some concern recently that the GOP might be slowly alienating Latinos, the only (and fasting growing) minority group that still kind of likes them. But, really, there's no need to worry. Arizona Republicans are doing all they can to speed up the process…

The Arizona Department of Education recently began telling school districts that teachers whose spoken English it deems to be heavily accented or ungrammatical must be removed from classes for students still learning English…

The teacher controversy comes amid an increasingly tense debate over immigration. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer this month signed the nation's toughest law to crack down on illegal immigrants. Critics charge that the broader political climate has emboldened state education officials to target immigrant teachers at a time when a budget crisis has forced layoffs.

Well done, Arizona. Well done. (Are you taking notes, Alabama?) I'm almost excited — in a horrible, horrible way — to see what the state is going to do next to dig your finger under the ribcage of 30 percent of your population. It's really been a roll recently. Do you think it can keep up its hectic pace? Seems tough, huh?

But, you know, with guys like this calling the shots, I think they might just go all the way.

The backlash from this will hurt Arizona.
