Lake Wobegon's Keillor recovering from mild stroke
Wed Sep 9, 5:19 pm ET

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – American author and humorist Garrison Keillor suffered a minor stroke and is undergoing medical tests in Minnesota, hospital officials said on Wednesday.

Keillor, 67, best known as the host of the radio show "A Prairie Home Companion" and author of the book "Lake Wobegon Days," said in a statement he drove himself to the hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, on Monday morning after "feeling ill."

"I am in the hands of smart and compassionate people and plan to get out on Friday and get right back to work, record a new audiobook as planned, do some lecture engagements, a book tour for 'Pilgrims' and of course the season opener at the Fitzgerald (Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota) on September 26," Keillor added.

Keillor's spokesman said the radio show host and writer was doing well and that he appreciated the warm wishes sent by hundreds of concerned fans.

Keillor's homespun mix of gentle humor, story-telling and music in "A Prairie Home Companion" has been a staple of public radio in the United States for more than 30 years.

The radio show is also broadcast in Britain, Ireland and Australia and his series of books about the fictional Minnesota small town Lake Wobegon have sold around the world.

A movie version of "A Prairie Home Companion" by director Robert Altman was released in 2006 and starred Lindsay Lohan, Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin and Kevin Kline.
