SAN ANTONIO -- A man arrested for a bank robbery Thursday may also be connected to a string of other crimes within the last week.
San Antonio Police arrested 21-year-old Jason Miears. They say he's a political science student at UTSA but sources tell us he may be behind three different crimes using the same gun.
As Miears walked into the magistrate court Thursday afternoon, he was facing two counts of aggravated robbery and a possible murder charge. Those charges stem from a crime spree that started Monday at the Outpost Apartments on UTSA Boulevard where he lives.
It's alleged Miears held some students at gunpoint for 45 minutes inside an apartment then stole their wallets and cell phones.
Later that night, tow truck driver Jose "Joe" Fernandez was shot four times while checking car permits at the same complex. Fernandez died.
Thursday police arrested Miears for a robbery at the IBC Bank branch at Bitters and Huebner around 11:30am. He walked away with more than $4,000 but officers caught up with him a few blocks away.
Police say they found a gun and cell phones on Miears that could tie him to all the crimes but he's not yet facing charges for Fernandez's murder.
Miears is now in jail on a $500,000 bond.
A rosary for Fernandez will be held Friday, March 27 from 6-8pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 2114 W. Houston. A memorial service will take place Saturday, March 28 from 8am-8pm at Puente & Son's Funeral Home. The final service will happen Monday, March 30 at 10am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
I'm glad they caught him. jackass.
