Light snow reported in North S.A.

Express-News -

Light snow was reported in north San Antonio early Wednesday morning after rain, sleet and small hail pelted the city throughout Tuesday evening.

A blustery cold front pushed into the area and offered a chance of more precipitation today.

Downtown, Stone Oak, the Medical Center area, the North Star Mall area and Terrell Heights all got a dusting of sleet. The frozen precipitation left a small amount of slush on some surfaces but caused no major problems as evening temperatures remained above the freezing mark.

According to the National Weather Service, after an overnight low around 31, there is a slight chance of more rain and sleet until 7 a.m. today, followed by a slight chance of rain through noon.

Today’s high temperature is expected to be in the upper 50s, with wind gusts up to 25 mph. Clear conditions are predicted by tonight, and freezing temperatures will return overnight.

The evening’s wintry weather caught many San Antonians by surprise. Earlier Tuesday, the city recorded a record-high temperature for the date of 85, eclipsing the 83 mark set in 1939.

While South Texas had only light precipitation, some areas of North Texas were heavily damaged as storms — including some probable tornadoes — moved south through the state late Monday.

In Denison, winds damaged or destroyed about 20 homes and left at least 4,000 customers without power. In Colleyville, one person’s minor injuries were attributed to the rough weather.
