NFL News: Giants' Collins will be released

looks like Eli will have to beat out the bachelor....

Giants' Collins will be released

Kerry Collins wanted his future with the Giants resolved as soon as possible, so first thing Monday morning, he went to see general manager Ernie Accorsi at his Giants Stadium office. By the end of the conversation, Collins' days with the team effectively were over.

The quarterback said he left with impression that he would be released in the coming days.

Collins is due $7 million in salary for 2004 and the team was unable and unwilling to keep him at that price after trading for Mississippi quarterback Eli Manning Saturday.

Collins, 31, reported for the team's offseason conditioning program Monday morning and attended a meeting, then asked to see Accorsi in his office. Accorsi laid Collins' options for re-working his contract; Collins said he would not renegotiate, sealing his fate.

Accorsi did not specifically tell Collins what the team would do or when, but Collins had no illusions he would back. He left Giants Stadium for the last time as a Giant at 10 a.m.

"Obviously, I'm reflective about the past five years," Collins said. "It's been a great five years. At the same time, I'm looking forward to moving on."

Green Bay? If deal for Couch isn't worked out...

SanFrancsco? Rattay is the only "qualified" starter

Tampa Bay? Gruden is said to be growing bored of brad johnson, and I'm sure Chris Simms isn't ready to take over the reigns...

maybe Oakland too.. Gannon's status is still a question mark.

Kerry Collins can still play, and he'll turn up on a playoff team soon, believe me.

Dallas should get him

He would have a connection with former Giants QB Coach - Sean Payton who is in Dallas

Would be a good choice while waiting for Drew Henson to be ready

I liked him, hate to see him go. Led the Giants to the Super Bowl that one year.

collins is an excellent quarterback when given time. his accuracy and especially his deep ball are frightening. i'm pissed to see him go but i guess this is "a new era in Giants football". his best fit would be Oakland or Baltimore.

he is better than Quincy Carter and more suited to teach the future QB of the Cowboys - Drew Henson about the NFL than Carter

If Dallas went after Vinny it wouldnt bother me

I would prob go after collins first I guess...

But with Parcells connection to Vinny - he will prob bring him to be the vet QB on the roster
