ST. LOUIS -- St. Louis police have arrested a man suspected of reprogramming service station gas pumps, allowing him to steal gasoline. The crime cost several stations tens of thousands of dollars as hundreds of motorists drove away with free gas before operators realized what had happened. Police were called Friday to a Mobil Food Mart. Employees there had taken down the license plate of a suspect's car, which was also recorded by store surveillance cameras. Police arrested a 23-year-old man. When they searched the Cadillac Escalade he was driving, they discovered keys to pump lock boxes, and code books with computerized programs for the pumps. The suspect is a recent college graduate with a degree in accounting. ![]() link |

People were getting their gasoline stolen from their cars after the katrina storm. Several big SUVs and Vans were getting their gasoline sucked out of their tanks.
