Is SpursStalker my ex?

I don't know if anyone noticed, but in the "Signs you aren't any younger" thread, SS mentioned that her daughter was turning 21 next week. I noted that my daughter was also turning 21 as well and questioned whether she may be my ex. Then she asked me my name in her following post. In fact, she even PM'd me and asked just to make sure. I haven't answered.

I'm not sure that I want to know just yet. What I mean is that the SS that I know from this forum has a sense of humor, appears to be outgoing, fun-loving and apparently likes to flirt...those were qualities in my ex. Now I never really thought about it before, but that birthday thing with my/her (our?) daughter got me wondering.

If SS is my ex and we find that out, how do I treat this place then. I know that i've been mostly a lurker, but I like reading the posts in the Cantina and absolutely love all the cool Spurs inside info. Would I even be banned from the Cantina?

On the other hand, I enjoy the interaction that SS and I have had as of late. In fact, the fact that she may be my ex kind of excites me. We didn't get along obviously at the end, but in the beginning of our relationship it was really something special. I keep wondering if we could be like that again.

So I guess, what I really want to know from you guys is...Should we reveal our identities to each other? Do you think that it will ruin everything? And mainly, will I be banned from the Cantina?

Honestly, you shouldn't have to ask. We (Cantina posters) have given enough information about ourselves, that in most cases it should be pretty easy to authenticate (but not identify) who we are. Which means, if you know the person, you can check whether he/she is who you believe them to be, my means of the data supplied. Generally it's not possible to come up with the identity of the person based solely on the information provided, though.

Just take a quick look at some things said about ourselves (in general, not everything applies to everybody): pictures, first name, gender, birthday, age range, height, ethnicity, profession, working place, location, family composition, personal skills, eating habits, personality traits, traveling history, political views, meaningless -but highly specific- details about ourselves... that's just a quick list of items I can think of that could be used to authenticate the identity of a given poster, that are available searching the last few months of posting history over here.

My point is, we can't control how the information we provide can be used. We can, however, control the information we provide. If to you -or anyone else-, that represents a problem, it's best not to make it public. If you do, then be aware that it might be used for other purposes than those intended. It's unfair, but we've learned it the hard way in the last couple of days with the pics incident. No point swimming against the tide, if someone can do it, someone is bound to do it. Troubling, but true nonetheless.

As to the specific case, I say you do verify whether or not you know each other, and you both get it out of the way. You can both do it anyway, so no point in pretending otherwise.
If it turns out you two do have a history together, and don't care for each other, just look go elsewhere for your Spurs' fix. It sucks, but it's better than putting up with some odd situation where no one feels comfortable.

Also, some fluke event doesn't alter the course of history, so don't try to force things. If something positive naturally evolves, so be it, but I wouldn't count on it... and much less try to spin it like that. Just let things develop by themselves.

I was wondering why you havent answered my pm ... now I know. Its ok and I think for now we should just leave things the way that they are. I mean anything is possible and liable to happen.

I do have to admit tho some of the simalarites do have me spooked a bit. You seem just about the same as my ex ... which in itself isnt a totally bad thing.



Why would you get banned? I dont think that has anything to do with it, if we find out that we are who we say we are then it shouldnt even be an issue

Good question! But, i'm thinking about how fun she seems here. There were some not so good times for us in the past and I think that maybe it might be fun or even good for us to do this...as long as we agree not to attack each other. After all, we may be strangers as well!
