so last night we went to Iraklion (capital of Crete) to see the new Harry Potter movie. I have to say that the theater was better then I expected considering that almost everything else here is prehistoric anyways we're watching the movie and all of a sudden the movie stops...screen goes black and the lights come off without any warning...I was like and Molly tells me that it's rather normal cos in Holland when she went to see the last LOTR they too got an intermission or something like that. I was surprised cos well no matter how long the movies are back in SA we never get that.So my question is....is it normal at other places to have a pause during the movie? Has this happen to anyone before? Am I being too "american" for being surprised about it? LOL ok so it's 3 questions but y'all know what I mean

I suppose its also possible that many smaller (That don't make a lot of money) theatres in the world may not have platters large enough to hold an entire movie that is really long. If thats the case they may have no choice but to have an intermission so that they can run the first few reels..then thread up the ones that wont fit on a single platter. But I dont remember that Harry Potter movie being that long...so I assume your incident was just a custom they have. |
