Menu choices aren't just big, they're biggest Web Posted: 03/03/2005 12:00 AM CST John Griffin Express-News Dining Editor Sure, this is Texas, where everything's big. Bigger than big, actually. But some folks just don't know when to stop. Why have a 1-pound hamburger, when you could have two pounds of ground beef sandwiched between your bun? Why have a bottle of Budweiser, when you could enjoy a 32-ounce beer off the tap served in a frozen schooner? Why have a modest danish, when you could lose yourself in a cinnamon bun that weighs more than three pounds? Some of the truly Texas-sized dishes and drinks available in San Antonio are not meant for one person. Who could eat a 37-inch pizza? Please don't answer that. Just remember your health and portion sizes when contemplating these belt busters. Big Lou's Pizza, 2048 S. W.W. White Road, (210) 337-0707 — Pizza lovers, are you ready for what Big Lou has in store for you? It's a pizza so big they had to order a special oven. That's right, Big Lou's is selling a 37-inch pizza. Think about it, that's more than a yard wide. The massive pie is meant to feed 10 to 12 people, owner Brian Lujan says. Since it was introduced a couple of weeks ago, the restaurant has only sold a dozen or so of the pizzas, which start at $33 for cheese. Word will start to spread, of course, and you might expect to see more of them moving out the door — but they won't fit. They're dine-in only. http://www.mysanantonio.com/entertai....fc68c039.html |

I eat at that place a lot and I will say this. They have the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. it's a good thing my GF lives down the road from them. BUT!!!... They are the worst run store I have ever seen. You will wait an hour for ANYTHING(nothing is organized) even after you waited the intial hour to hour and a half they say to wait before coming in. They are rude and the price is GOD D*** REDICULOUS. This is the only place that I eat at currently that treat me like **** but the food is so good I can put up with it. Try it out, you won't regret it... well maybe! ;) |

I like Chicago's Pizza @ Blanco and Oblate. Best deal in town. $3.99 for a large 14" pizza....and it tastes pretty darn good...... they also sell awesome authentic deep dish pizza pies for about $12, that are so filling I can only eat two slices, max before I'm stuffed. |

Wow, you experiences with Big lou's is completely different from mine. I eat their pizza a lot too and have never been treated rude. Never in the old smaller place and not once in their new much larger restaurant. And the "cook" time has never been longer than 30 minutes for me, But I order over the phone and then go pick it up. Do you eat there? I never have. Maybe that's when they're rude. I don't know. |
