This movie was not nominated for Best Picture. I personally loved the movie, but judging from a technical point of view, this movie isn't quite as good as other movies. I loved that Gibson went against Hollywood to make this, but it just could have been made better. Thoughts?

Well, Titanic WON for best picture, which begs the question : how much stock can you really put in the Academy? That said, there were better movies made this year than The Passion. Perhaps not as controversial, but certainly better. |

5 directors better than Mel Gibson this year? I don't buy that. The jews in Hollywood planned to snub this film back in Feburary no matter how good or how successful it was simply because of the topic. That's the bottom line. |

I think you don't go to the movies enough, Rich. Or maybe I'm saying that cuz I'm Jewish? http://www.metacritic.com/film/awards/ |

can you prove that? many films released at that time of year end up being forgotten/snubbed. many. i don't buy this theory. and even if it was true, so what? what difference does it really make? i mean, how does this affect you in your everyday life? |

I think it was overlooked because of all the hype... see: Fahrenheit 9/11 That's what most of them remember... is the hubbub surrounding the movie. Actually I have mixed feelings about The Passion. It's great to look at but as far as the substance and the screenplay... well I don't know.

Same here, Drachen. I was so rooting for it to get at least a Best Pic nod but glad that Kate got it. I'm sure she'd love her Finding Neverland costar to win best actor but I'd so have to go with Jamie Foxx on that one.

It's all about spending $$$$$$$!!!!! I did a project last semister on Passion of the Christ. The real answer here is Mel isn't going to allow for any cent to be spent on promoting the movie to the academy. In case you don't know anything about hollywood, you have to spend millions of dollars in promoting a single film to the academy members. Mel vowed not to fall into that money race, which he could very well hold his own if he wanted to spend the money. But he wants the film to be judged for it's character and the impressions the audience around the world will give, more so then hollywood types.... so in the end, please don't chaulk this up to typical stereotypical anti-semitism on hollywoods part. Chaulk it up to Mel not spending any money to promote it... |

I'm surprised Rich hasn't come back to elaborate his theory on Holywood Jewocrasy. That said : SA is not an anti-semitic sity, Hantler. Not by a long shot. Perhaps he's sermonizing on how to post in good taste? |
