Does anyone know the best places in San Antonio to go and play poker for money? I hear Tiffany's is a great place but I don't think they have it on the weekends.

If I were you I'd forget about actually going somewhere to play for money. You'd probably be better off playing online on one of the plethora of online poker sites around. I'd recommend Empire Poker. I'm only playing with fake money atm, but will progress to real $$ soon enough. What type of poker are you playing, texas hold'em?

Why exactly would you tell him to foget about actually going somewhere to play poker??? Real "LIVE" Poker tournaments can be a lot of fun...more fun than an online tournament. I have never been to one at this place...so I cant vouch for its quality or attendance...but I noticed on thier calender the last time I was at Hooligans (Next to the Live Oak theatre on the NE side) that they have a Poker night once a week. I can't remember the night though. |

I play Texas hold em. I played online at thunderpoker.com and lost a couple hundred bucks. It just seems rigged to me. I mean on three separate occasions I had A full house Ace's over two's and Kings over 10's and another typr hand that I can't recall and every time someone had 4 two's or 4 tens to beat my hand. It just seems rigged. I can see that happening once in a while but three times in two days is crazy. It seems like the online dealer knows or is programmed to give cards out like that. I don't reccomend playing for money online. Hell, maybe I was really that unlucky but I'd rather play live knowing that if I lose my money its by sheer and 100% pure luck.

you can find info at www.nationalpubpoker.com and there is another one that plays in sa too... the tourneys aren't for money... pretty just to get you to go to the bars and buy drinks... it is pretty fun and a good way to practice... i've been to fox/hound, around the bend, and The Place and they usually all have about 18-30 players...

yeah they arent for money, places have tried and the games have been shut down. like clicks use to have it for money, 500 bucks a month. weekly winners qualify for the end of the month 500 dollar tourney. they tried to get around it by just signing up playing for fun and who ever won, wins the loot. but i guess that is still considered gambling even though no one is betting real money and the house isnt making money. i know of some true money games, big time and all. it isnt hard to find them if you start playing around town.

Big Empty, if you decide to venture down the online route again, try going to http://www.pokertips.org/ first. They have a review of several online sites. I agree, many are dodgy, but some are legit businesses, and you can even win seats at this years World Series of Poker. Some of them have to be legit, otherwise people wouldn't play there. Empire Poker often has over 10 000 real money players at any one time. The big advantage of online poker is that you can play several hands at once, thereby increasing your average hourly $$ rate (or $$ loss for that matter).
