Is that the one with 4gigs? How much did you have to shell out if you don't mind telling us. I have been looking into an I pod but I have a couple concerns. I think the mini might have too little storage capacity and I don't know of a legit/cheap way to get music except from the CD's I already own. Getting music off CD's is pretty time consuming I think. I still would need to find a good CD ripper program. I do have methods of downloading music that might not be completely in line with the RIAA, but I haven't thought about it thoroughly.

I have had an ipod since they first came out. I have a 10 gig that operates throguh firewire.
You use iTunes to import your cds on to your ipod or you can load it with MP3s you allrady own. Of course you can alsways download music from the net and then load them on as well. The cool thing about the ipod is that it can aslo be a backup storage drive for your computer.

Crashtec : Yes the mini is 4GB. The apple store and best buy sell it for $249. You can always try e-bay. Also, if you are a student/staff/faculty of a school, you can get $20 off that price.

For $50 more you get 16 more gigs with a regular Ipod.

^^thats what I was thinking. Its not much more to get the one with more gigs. I also have wanted to get one ever since I saw this guy on my flight with one and they looked really cool. What else does it do other than music and storage? I think I saw you can put e-books on there as well.

I got the mini because of the size. I wanted something smaller to have on my arm or waist while working out. The mini holds up to 1000 songs. I figure that is plenty for me.

Angel: yes, they have something like 8,000 books available to download.

well this thread prompted me to start searching for the best mp3 player. It seems users have taken to the iRiver h140. It seems to have better user reviews on battery life, supported file types and accessories on www.cnet.com It also seems the Creative Zen Micro (5G) is better overall than the Mini iPod. Of course these are subjective reviews but I thought people here might want to know. Here's the review site I was looking at http://reviews.cnet.com/Music/4502-6...t=&cdi=5502852

I came across this site (I think this was it), www.audible.com, once in a magazine that rated it as a great product and thats where I saw you could load e-books on there. It seemed affordable but I didn't get to look into it much. I am sure there are other sites to get them too. I also got a couple of mine off of newsgroups once.

I finally settled on the iRiver iHP-120. The FM radio, flexible formats, and operation as a standard hard drive were more important to me than size and style (I mainly use it at work or in the car - not for jogging). Very nice upgrade from my Archos.
