SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) -- A Texas county has told registered sex offenders to stay in their homes and not take part in the festivities on Halloween, when costumed children go from house to house seeking treats. "They won't decorate, they won't turn on their porch lights. They will not give out candy, and they will not be on the streets after dark," said Susan Reed, District Attorney of Bexar County which includes the city of San Antonio. Halloween should not be "curb service for perverts", Reed said, adding: "We are trying to keep kids from going to sex offender houses, knocking on the doors, and having a pervert meet them there." Under Texas law those convicted of a sex crime are included on a registry which is open to the public. Reed said probation officers in the county had helped her get sex offenders in the county to sign statements agreeing to the restrictions, which she said would be imposed annually. http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/10/27/cr...eut/index.html

Registered sex offenders should have to post some kind of easily recognizable symbol on their dwellings. How about a scarlet "P" for pervert?

The term 'sex offender' is way too broad in the state of Texas.
