High school coach faces theft charge The Rankin Ledger Pearl — Pearl High teacher and boys soccer coach Brad Biard is scheduled to appear in Florence Municipal Court on Oct. 14 to face a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny in connection with the theft of a credit card and $20. ![]() According to a police report, the 29-year-old allegedly stole $20 and a credit card from a woman's purse and used the card to purchase $120 of tokens Aug. 14 at the Chuck E. Cheese Restaurant on I-55 N in Jackson. Biard has pleaded not guilty. He declined to comment on the charge but said he is "an honest individual." Florence police said Tuesday that the incident is still under investigation. Biard turned himself into authorities Sept. 3 and was later charged and released, according to records from the Florence Police Department. Florence prosecutor David Ringer said Biard's attorney, Bill Kirksey, faxed Biard's not guilty plea to the court. A charge of misdemeanor petit larceny carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail plus a $500 fine. Ringer said last week that he didn't know what penalty he would seek against Biard. Pearl Schools Superintendent Stan Miller declined to comment on the charge or Biard's job status, saying it was a personnel matter. Chuck E. Cheese general manager Dale Trunnell said the company will not know until the end of the month whether it will press charges against Biard. "When our financial statements return and it shows the credit card transaction didn't go through, then yes we will proceed with charges to get our money," Trunnell said. William Grubbs, an attorney representing Dana Lewis, the woman whose card was allegedly stolen, said the incident occurred during a party at his house in Florence. |
