3 days of live music with hundreds of bands. I know a lot of people going. Sith

It's a really large outdoor music festival put on by the show "Austin City Limits". This is it's third year. Bands and individuals that have played the show in the past or otherwise fit into it's format of roots-rock type music (generally with some exceptions) play about 45minutes to an hour sets, one after another, spread out on like seven different stages over three days. It's held at Zilker Park. You can get a one or two or three day pass. They have free shuttles to and from the park all day long. It's really huge. Close to or maybe even exceeding 100 different bands, I think. I know about some of the bands, some I have no idea about. I'm looking forward to seeing among others: the Pixies (reunited ), the Roots, the Wailers, Elvis Costello, Wilco, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Franz Ferdinand, Old '97s, Ryan Adams, the Gourds, Joe Ely, Butch Hancock, Terry Allen, Blind Boys of Alabama, the Neville Brothers....and on and on. I sprung for the three day pass this year ($80). I'm forcing myself to believe that's dirt cheap compared to what I would have to pay separately to see even a handful of these folks. The only problem is sometimes you gotta make hard choices--you can't be everywhere at once. It's a really cool, community feeling event. Big success so far. I imagine something like a Woodstock, but right here where I live. Y'all should really check it out this year or next year maybe: http://www.aclfestival.com/schedule.html |

eyes That's boring IMO.I like some Motorhead as much as the next guy, but I crave different things too! I'll listen to Cash,Talking Heads,Jimmy Cliff, and Pixies, and then maybe I'll listen to some corny Euro-Metal as well. But all the time? The whole point of this festival is to show bands of similar, yet different styles, and hopefully turn on some new fans to music they've never listened to before. I have a 6 disc changer in my car, and you think I cram it with 6 discs of heavy metal? 6 discs of country or rap? Too much of one thing puts ME to sleep |

Thanks for the link DizzG! I didn't even know they were doing a webcast. I'm trying to go on Sunday. My friend was supposed to buy the tickets but he hasn't mentioned anything. I wanted to go tonight and tomorrow. Hear Sheryl Crow today and the Pixies tomorrow. But the Hopkins fight is tomorrow and I can't miss that.

Wow...had a great time yesterday. There were so many people there, seems like a lot more than last year. Amazing to see that many people. We saw a bit of the Blind Boys of Alabama, Patti Griffin (the redhead RichB was wondering about), Broken Social Scene (they were awesome, never heard them before but really liked them), a little bit of Rebirth Brass Band (fun as hell), and Joe Ely (with David Grissom on guitar and Lloyd Maines on steel, kicked ass). Really fun time had by all, good vibes. We were tired, the sun really takes it out of you. We're still trying to recover and then get back on the horse. Only problem is that beers are $4 apiece. Killing me. We're gonna get there in time for the Old 97's at 3pm, and then it's on like Donkey Kong from there, closing down with the Pixies at 9. That's cool that they have a webcast! Quote:
