Does asking for an increase of credit line look bad on your credit report?

In June, Citi doubled my credit limit without my request. I, of course, did not complain. However, I was planning to ask for an increase either next month or in October. Since they just increased my limit, should I not ask for another? Someone told me that the more you reqest increases and apply for cards, the more it makes you look desperate for money which obviously looks bad. Any credit card experts out there? Thanks!

Everytime that your credit report is looked at, it counts as a point. Not that big a deal if you do it once in a blue moon but if you do it a lot, or apply for a lot of credit cards all at the same time, then yes it does hurt your credit rating.

thats a sign you should stop and tear that bad boy up.

If you're creeping close to your max and needing to re-load, then its not good and asking them i imagine wouldn't be a good thing...cause you're probably asking for more for a reason.
you gotta be careful with these things they'll drop you in a hole without you even knowing it. it'll hit you like a locomotive man.

I've never asked for a increase but got them over time anyways just paying off and going a hell of a lot below the limit..not even half.

I tend to mostly use my American Express card as that has no limit but then at the end of the month just pay off whatever i buy.
that could suck too cause those $1500 Buck Callaway Big Berthas coming in at the end is a hassle

do not ask for an increase!! pay off the balance and close the account unless you absolutely need a card. Believe me stop and get out while you still have a chance. If you decide to close the account, make sure that they indicate it was "closed at consumers request."

I always send much more. I'm not saying I need the higher limit, which is what some people though.

One thing I have heard you should not do once you have paid off a card is to close it.

That is supposed to look bad from what I have heard. Its better to have a few cards that are never used than to close them down...because closing them reduces your total available credit value.

This could be BS though...But I swear I have heard this several times before.
