Round Rock (North of Austin) will be getting Triple-A baseball and now looks like El Paso will be getting one too, if their stadium gets it's improvements met. News came out that the El Paso Diablos (AA Texas League - Arizona Dimondbacks), who are divisonal rivals with the San Antonio Missions, have been sold to a bussiness man in Springfield, Missouri. El Paso maybe getting the Seattle Mariners' and the San Antonio Missions' Triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers, as their triple-A franchise. http://www.borderlandnews.com/storie...1-158514.shtml http://www.ky3.com/newsdetailed.asp?id=6624 Wow, smaller towns getting higher levels of ball play! But El Paso is very low in attendance! |

I think a big part of the problem is Wolf Stadium is in bad need of repair. reports I read awhile back were The Missions want to control the stadium themselves and be responsible for its upkeep right now they city is and they do a poor job. It used to be a beautiful little place now the landscaping has gone down hill...The consession stands need an update the scoreboard is out of date. It needs a few more "modern" things added that many of the newer minor league parks have Its a nice ballpark but its been around awhile now and needs a face lift. |

AAA is the step right under the Major Leagues. This is where major leaguers re-hab and go back to the big team AA is down there two notches below the Majors. you got Rookie Ball- fresh out of the drafts and signees A Ball - which is bad AA- where the missions are AAA- right below the bigs Major League Baseball- the big time. |

You got it guys! The City does own Wolff Stadium but the Missions want to own it so they can update and add in a lot of new things to average more fans. The Missions are the only team in the league that doesn't own their own stadium. In the same report, we should know what will become of the Missions and Wolff Stadium by October of this year, even though I have read rumors that the City will not allow this to happen. Double-A ball isn't all that bad though. It's probably the most stabled level in all of minor leagues. But only a few times have I seen big league players be sent down to the Texas League. San Antonio is a little too big for Double-A, I think. We have been Double-A ball since the league began in 1888 (second oldest League in baseball ). Triple-A would be perfect but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Sounds like the Texas League has some openings. Perhaps my Fort Worth Cats can make the jump up from the independent Central Baseball League. http://www.fwcats.com |

Well, I don't know about that. Lubbock is serious about having a TL team as well. Speaking of the CBL, the league has contacted former El Paso Diablos owner about possibly expanding the CBL to El Paso.

True, but came through here as a Minor Leaguer. I think he only played 32 games as a Mission then was called up to Triple-A. We already have a few, now, that have played with the Missions in the past two seasons and are now in Seattle. About four from last year's club! |
