Update: had my lasik eye surgery yesterday

I'm not blind! That's always good. ;)

Anyway, I had my lasik surgery yesterday. It lasted 15 minutes at most. But everything went fine (it actually did hurt a little though, anyone else think so?), and today, things are awesome. I had my post op check up this morning, and I am now at a 20/15 vision, from a 20/200! It really is incredible, how different everything looks to me now. my eyes are a bit bruised in the white part of my eyes, but doc told me its normal and will fade.

all in all, I'm so glad I did it, am very happy with the results and it was worth every penny

If you don't mind me asking what did the procedure cost and who was your doctor? Also did your health insurance cover any of the cost.

it cost me $2,798.00. but I put $600 down and am getting the rest financed over 12 months. So I'll be making payments of about $185. My doc was Dr. Federico Mattioli, M.D. here in Houston. He's awesome

I have no insurance.. paying it all by my lonesome.

I don't remember any pain - it was just odd and uncomfortable.

I was very surprised at how fast the change was. I was able to read an eye chart 5 minutes after the surgery - and had 20/15 the next day like you did.

That is from the device that held your eyeball still (a suction cup like thing?), and not from the actual laser. It goes away quickly. Now you'll just have to go six months without rubbing or wiping your eyes...

I'm glad to hear it went well for you. I agree - worth every single penny.

told you it would work.
I was impressed with my ability to read the clock on the wall.
i still remember the burning flesh smell. did you?
remember to take your meds. some of our patients didn't and now have to pay for not following orders.
its been over a year and I see great.
you'll notice the feeling of needing to wear something over your eyes. I felt uncomfortable when I mowed with no more glasses. I had to wear saftey glasses because I was so nervous.
well, don't forget to see your eye doctor and take your meds.

can someone explain what the meaning of 20/15 or 20/20 is?
what is the prescription of 20/15 compared to 20/100?

glad things went well for you.
I had a question, maybe someone can answer or speculate.
Because Lasik Surgery is still sorta new, do they know the long-term
effects of having one done ? I mean what if ur eyes get worst down the road,
do u have another surgery ? Say the surgery goes wrong, is there a way to correct it ?, has there been a case where the surgery fails and the person goes blind ?

20/20 vision is a term used to express normal visual acuity (the clarity or sharpness of vision) measured at a distance of 20 feet. If you have 20/20 vision, you can see clearly at 20 feet what should normally be seen at that distance. If you have 20/100 vision, it means that you must be as close as 20 feet to see what a person with normal vision can see at 100 feet.

So how do people in countries that use the metric system measure vision?
