Honestly, the best place for a first time fishing trip, in my experience, is to a friendly rancher's tank. Almost guaranteed to catch fish, and have fun in the process. I would also recommend the coast, and take one of the charters out of there, preferably the shorter ones (4 hours or so) until you decide if you like it. Fishing is one of my favorite sports, and I don't find it boring at all. |

If you don't have a boat or friends with a boat I recommend what TJ said. If you DO have a boat, then I'll say Choke Canyon in Three Rivers. On my worst days I've always managed to catch something there. If you do the salt water thing, get on a charter. They're usually around 4 hour trips (but can vary) and everyone on the boat seems to bring back something.

I would reccommend putting your time and money into fly fishing. If you think fishing from the dock or shore with a regular rod and reel is boring, fly fishing might be what you are looking for. It combines skill and technique and in my opinion, keeps you more involved in the process of trying to catch a fish. There's nothing like standing in the river on a beautiful day and casting. Your mind drifts away to "A River Runs Through It" and you feel at peace.

deep sea or bay fishing? i've never been out there but port c'connor is supposed to be the bomb. after that i'd say rockport/port aranasas is pretty good too. i don't have a boat and always catch SOMETHING at the Copano Bay bridge/pier. here's a link to a "fishing" msg board. good people there and they'll help out with just about anything you need to know. http://2coolfishing.net/ttmbforum/index.php?

there's to much work envolved and the equipement itself is very expensive and can get you very lost.

![]() I'd like to go fishing myself. I haven't done it in years. Some friends of mine keep talking about going but we just haven't gotten around to doing it. Good to hear what others recommend.

I'd have to say the Aransas Wildlife Refuge. It's located between Rockport Texas and Port Lavaca Texas. There are watchtowers, picnic areas and many places to fish. Its very undisturbed. There are seasons to fish in between april 15 and October 15th are open season for fishing and the fishing is excellent if you don't own a boat. I used to live in South Texas and that was the place. Hope that helps

If you go on a charter, don't forget the dramamine. You've got to take it before the charter boat leaves. If you wait until you feel sick, it won't help (probably won't be able to keep it down, anyway). My ex's brother made fun of me for being wimpy enough to take it, but guess who hurled over the side? Not me, I caught the biggest fish-grouper 27 lbs.

Go to Port Aransas and go Deep Sea Fishing. It's a great 1st time experience and you will enjoy the boat ride. If you are not too fond of the open sea, then head to a fishing ranch and drink some beers will getting some guaranteed fish. Fishing is fun....ENjoy!

Just ask my friend Shaq where to go fishing. He has done quite a lot of fishing the last few years. You can also ask either Mark Cuban, or his good friend Mouse. They will be able to help you out.

i don't know if this is something you would do with your wife but here it goes. get a cooler full of ice and beer (i'm talking a **** load of beer). go out and don't come back in untill all the beer is gone. by then it won't matter how many fish you caught |
