Yes he did sign as a free agent...sorta.. It had been more than 3 years since the spurs had drafted him, so he was able to sign for more than his slotted salary but there were still restrictions. As a result he is still playing on a rookie contract. He qualifies as a starter so his hold will be the same as the #9 pick in his draft.
