MIAMI — Joey Crawford is part of tonight’s officiating crew for Game 2 of the NBA Finals at American Airlines Arena.
Crawford will be joined by Ken Mauer and Ed Malloy. It marks the first time he’s worked a Spurs game in the Finals since his infamous ejection of Tim Duncan
from a regular season game in 2007. Crawford was temporarily suspended, and would later express regret for the incident.
There would seem to be some lingering beef from that situation, judging by the Halloween photo Duncan took with Tony Parker
at a private party last fall, with the two Spurs stars holding toy guns to the head of an anonymous man dressed as Crawford.
For all the local angst Crawford’s assignment might create, an academic study indicated that the Spurs suffer virtually no negative impact on their win-loss
record in comparison to expectation.
