He relied on the hook, clear out, and dunk his ENTIRE career. The refs actually seemed to tweak the way the post is called AFTER Shaq in order to prevent a repeat of a player using "muscle 'em outta the way" as their one go-to move.
Which is why D12 is moaning now.
