I really do wonder how they will handle this. I cannot remember the last time the Spurs offered anyone the full mid-level exception. They usually try to split it.
DL has been a tremendously overpaid player in recent years. It will be interesting to see what kind of attention he draws this off-season. I doubt anyone will offer him more than the mid-level exception, and I think it's possible he could even go for less than that based upon his weight and conditioning issues, plus the fact that it's unclear how well he'll be motivated to play if he's not with his buddy Tony.
