Monaco was the last French team to reach the Champions League final, back in 2004, but now it is fighting to stay in Ligue 1 and for its very existence. Last week, Laurent Banide was appointed as coach for his second spell in charge. The team, with only three league wins and an embarrassing French Cup exit to fifth-division side Chambery to its name, went into this weekend's round of fixtures in the relegation zone.
