For the Rangers it is the team’s first appearance in the World Series in the 50-year history since the club was formed (with the first 12 years being in Washington).
For the San Francisco Giants it will be the first chance for World Series glory since the club moved to San Francisco in 1958. The Giants did win the World Series in 1954, but as the New York Giants.
Texas will also be looking to break a trend that has been forming in recent years. The Rangers will be the fourth first time World Series team in the last six years. While this kind of parity and competitive balance is good for the game it has not been good for the fortunes of those teams in the World Series. The three previous first time teams all lost in five games or less.
