Report: Elin Divorcing Tiger Woods
12/16/2009 12:14 PM ET By Will Brinson

The Tiger Woods news cycle is a fast-paced, rumor-filled maelstrom at this point, and People magazine is throwing a very big, to the say the least, lump of coal on to the fire with a report today that Elin Nordegren is planning to divorce the superstar golfer.

This seems improbable: but so did the notion of Tiger taking a break from golf ... and that rumor was quickly validated when he stepped away from the game last Friday. So People's rumor/report at least warrants some consideration:
The holidays may bring a final showdown in the marriage of Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren, a source close to the golfer's wife tells PEOPLE, saying, "She plans to leave Tiger."

Another source says, "She's made up her mind. There's nothing to think about: he's never going to change," PEOPLE reports in its upcoming issue, on newsstands Friday.
At this point, divorce is certainly not out of the realm of possibility. Since crashing his SUV over Thanksgiving weekend, Tiger's image has come undone due to a disturbingly large number of women stepping forward with claims that they have had affairs with the star golfer. Tiger's wallet has also taken a hit, as the management-consulting firm Accenture ended its relationship with Woods earlier this week and will no longer pay Tiger to represent the company in advertisements.

And then on top of all of that, it was recently revealed that Tiger was treated by a Canadian doctor who is under investigation for doping.

Yet, if forced to make a gut decision, I would say the reports are wrong and that Tiger and Elin would at least attempt to patch things up. But again, it's certainly possible that Elin may consider a full separation the most responsible thing for herself and her children.
