SAN ANTONIO -- 86 year-old Ada Kennedy Young passed away July 19th, 2006. Three years and three months later, she has finally been given a proper burial. Kennedy's family believed she was cremated in 2006, even attending a ceremony at Forest Park Funeral Home. It wasn't until June of this year that someone happened upon Young's body lying in a casket in a rusty tin storage shed behind the now out-of-business funeral home.
Young had never been cremated or buried. Her family was horrified.
"Life is full of trials and tribulations and it has been a trial for us.", said Young's granddaughter Rhonda Pickaree.
After hearing the story, the owner of Collins Funeral Home at 6867 Montgomery Drive, contacted Young's family and offered to give Young a proper cremation and ceremony free of charge.
Snday, loved ones peppered the pews of the small chapel and Ada Young finally received her long overdo farewell. Pickaree said, "It just gives us closure to know that she's OK now".
Her ashes sat front and center in a small mahogany box with a bouquet of bright flowers on each side and a black and white picture of a more youthful Young displayed on a television screen nearby.
Young's granddaughter Lisa Woodard said with a laugh, "I don't know if she would have enjoyed all of this press. She was a quiet lady. She went unknown for years and all of sudden, she's everywhere so here's to Ms. Young."
