Wouldn't say it's unusual for a large scale collision. Look at that impact on Jupiter of a Pacific Ocean sized body. Large gravity wells will pull these things in occasionally. I'm wondering if its a planet or a traveling body caught into a regular orbit, just far too close to its sun.
