Lions Veteran DE Has Season-ending Surgery

Detroit Lions veteran defensive end Jared DeVries suffered a season-ending injury Monday when the 11-year pro ruptured his Achilles' tendon, the team said.
The injury occurred during the Lions' full-padded morning practice. Coach Jim Schwartz reported it was a non-contact injury.
DeVries, 33, has spent his entire professional career with the Lions. He started 10 games in 2008 when he had a career-high 45 tackles with two sacks and one forced fumble.
In 120 career NFL contests, DeVries, who played college football at Iowa, has 164 tackles and 16 1/2 sacks.
