Morgan Freeman Goes Jet Shopping In San Antonio
With his career, Oscar winning actor Morgan Freeman does a lot of travelling around the world. His latest stop in San Antonio, however, is not for a movie. Freeman is in town to pick up his newest investment, an S-J 30 business jet. The jets are built here in San Antonio, by EMIVEST Aerospace, formerly Sino Swearingen.
Freeman, who has appeared in movies such as Driving Miss Daisy and Million Dollar Baby, said that he has always loved the idea of flying. He joined the Air Force in 1955 and took basic training at Lackland with the hopes of one day becoming a pilot. Though that did not work out, Freeman once again realized his love for flying when he met up with his business partner in Mississippi, who is also a pilot.
"I like the idea of flying," Freeman said. "The very idea of being in the air. I'm also a sailor so I like the very idea of being on the ocean."
Freeman said he has been buying aircraft since he received his pilot license in 2002. He looks forward to enjoying his new investment, which has speed and comfort built right in.
"The speed is excellent; it's the fastest small jet in the world," EMIVEST Aerospace spokesman Joe Gulliom said. "The range, 2000 plus miles, and the comfort are just wonderful."
The operating costs of the S-J 30 business jet are low, said Gulliom, which is a factor that was not overlooked by Freeman. The jet averages less than 100 gallons an hour.
"I travel a lot in the world and I like to go on my own nickel and this is the aircraft that can do it for me," Freeman said.
Freeman has recently completed filming his latest project in South Africa, which co-stars Matt Damon and is directed by Clint Eastwood. Freeman said that a title has not yet been decided, but he said to keep an eye out for it.
