Northwestern, bidding for its first postseason victory since 1949, billed itself “The Redeem Team” coming into Monday’s Valero Alamo Bowl.
But in the end, redemption at the Alamodome belonged to Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel.
The former star at Southlake Carroll, in suburban Fort Worth, who threw three interceptions in regulation, rebounded with a 7-yard touchdown strike to All-American wideout Jeremy Maclin in overtime to lift the Tigers to a 30-23 victory before an estimated 55,986 fans.
The Wildcats, who came in as 12 1/2-point underdogs, couldn’t score on their overtime possession, which ended when quarterback C.J. Bachér’s desperation heave into the end zone from 32 yards out fell incomplete.
